The drive to photograph

The camera is not only the tool that allows you to see without a camera, but it is also the tool that compels you to venture into places you normally wouldn’t go and gives you permission to try things that you wouldn’t normally do. The camera and the photograph is not the day job, it helps me decompress from the day job. The photograph allows me to express myself in a very different way – the day to day language is business, scientific, literal, sensible, rationale, forward thinking, future-oriented, political. The language of the photograph allows me to build on all these, discard them, ignore them, twist them, satirise them, and reflect on them. Most of all, the camera challenges me to stride outside of my comfort zone, to learn and to develop….and it has done this for more years than I care to remember.
